There is a big reason why, but I can't share that with you just yet. :) The other reason is... well, I don't know why! I guess I've been in a bloggy funk.
So, I asked my son what I should write about. He said, "Well... just write about something funny. Maybe make a funny video or something that will crack them up... oh, and talk in an alien voice."
But, I'm pretty sure that none of you want to see what I look like right now (at almost one in the morning) and I'm certain I can't do an "alien voice" (despite Maddox's attempts to teach me how) so I'll pass on the video idea.
Instead, I'll ask a question.... Do any of you ever get in a bloggy funk? Maybe you can't think of anything to write about? Or, maybe you're just not interested in blogging that week?
I hope my spark for blogging will come back soon! After all, my poor blog has never been so neglected.
So, I posted last Tuesday about this ridiculous diet that I was going to attempt.
I lasted five whole days (which I happen to be very proud of, thank you very much) before I gorged on popcorn while watching a movie about this boy named Harry Potter. You've probably never heard of it so I'll move on....
That #dietfail aside, I did manage to redeem myself and have done well. I've even lost 6 pounds. Holla!!
However, today.... I did something really bad.
But it's not totally my fault. In fact, I write this post as a warning. This is no joke people. You have every right to be alarmed. In fact, if you're not alarmed yet you better check your batteries because your no-freaking-way detector is obviously not working.
Now hold on to your love handles because you are in for a surprise.
You see, several months ago McDonald's did something amazing horrible. It combined two of my greatest weaknesses into one delicious disastrous temptation.
I should have known from the start there was a catch, that it was too good to be true. But alas, love is blind. So I ignored the signs that were right in front of my face all along.
I loved her like I've never loved before, even if only from a distance as I chugged my low-fat fresh fruit smoothies. But they could never be her. No, this had to stop! I had to have her... to make her my own!
So tonight I told my diet, "Diet, I need some space... some time to reflect on us. Don't worry, I'm not going to do anything crazy. I'm just gonna go hang out with my friends, I promise. You can trust me."
And being the amazing Diet that he is, he let me go. Deep down, I think he knew I wouldn't be faithful, but what could he say? He had to let me try things my own stubborn way.
So I left, and I grabbed the McFlurry. It was everything I'd been craving this past week. I was so happy.
That is, until I learned her deep, dark secret. One so shocking and heinous that I can never look at her the same again.
She contains almost 700 calories for a regular size!! SEVEN hundred!!
This is an actual photograph taken of ME at the exact moment I found out.
[Caution: Image may be disturbing to younger viewers.]
Okay, so maybe that's not the actual photo of me, but it's a pretty dang accurate depiction of how it all went down. Such a tragedy....
After the shock wore off I returned home to Diet. Needless to say he's upset that I cheated, but he forgives me and we're going to try to work things out. I'm going to try to be more faithful from now on and hopefully, over time, things will get easier.
Until then, well.... I'll always have the memory of her, at least for the next 3 months while I try to sweat her off at the gym. And, if I can save just one person from herself and the tasty, diet-destroying wrath of the Rolo McFlurry, then my job here is done.
[Yes, I am aware that this picture is horrible quality. It was taken with my iPhone at night.]
Can't figure it out.... ? That's okay.
Lucky for you, I'm a nice person.
So here's a photo of what my car should look like.
[Again, another night photo, but at least it was taken with my DSLR and not my iPhone.]
Alright... if you still can't figure it out, here is your last hint.
If you'd like to qualify for the bonus round you'd better get this right!
But no pressure...
Did you guess that someone stole the little Cadillac cover off my rim? Then we've got a winner!!
(And if you also noticed that I took the time to draw a frowny-face on my rim to express my sadness, you get bonus points.)
You made it to the bonus round!!
[Please try to contain your excitement.]
BONUS PHOTO: What's Wrong With This Picture?
If you guessed that my foot is covered in mud, you're obviously unstoppable!
As I was trying to take the photo of my car tonight, I stupidly [that's a word, right?] stepped in the pile of "dirt" my husband had placed in our front yard to fill in a small hole, not thinking about how it has rained several inches in the past 48 hours.
So what's your prize for winning?
Well, I'd give you my front passenger-side, lug-nut cover but someone's apparently already claimed that prize. So, I guess your prize is just the satisfaction of knowing Charlie Sheen would be proud of you.
Last night a severe storm hit parts of the south, including our state. Ten people have been confirmed dead and there are many missing. We knew the base had been hit by a tornado but we didn't know the extent of the damage until this morning.
My husband is in the military and my son goes to daycare on base. I went to take him into school this morning only to realize what exactly had happened. I will say that it could have been a lot worse and thankfully no one was injured on base (as far as I know). So I snapped some pictures before turning around and heading to class (with my five year old).
Trees were down in the residential area of the base.
This tree was completely uprooted. It's hard to understand just how large this tree is. But, notice the power line toward the left of it that's leaning?
Here is another photo of the same tree pictured directly above, this time from further away. Notice how small the red car to the right of it looks next to this massive tree.
Several power lines were down all over the base.
In fact, this was my first indication that his school might just be closed today. Roadblocks? Check. Down power lines? Check. Taking 5 year old to sit through 4 hours of law-school classes? Check.
But, because his school was still a little further down that road, I didn't know if just a small section was blocked off, so I decided to try the other side. (Can you tell I really didn't want to torture the child by bringing him to class with me?) But, this is what I found when I tried to enter on the other side.
On our detour through the base to see if his school was open we really got an idea of the extent of the property damage.
Dozens of vehicles were completely totaled by the storm.
Many roofs were damaged as well.
This was a small building.
It's hard to tell from this photo but the cart returns were very mangled (if not missing) and some of the glass had been shattered in the shopping center.
Unfortunately, tornado season is in full-swing and many more dangerous storms will be crossing through the south over the next week. Please keep all of us in your thoughts and prayers.
And if you're located in an area that's notorious for tornados or dangerous storms during this time of year, please have a safety plan in place. My son, my sister, and I practically set on top of one another last night in our hallway closet as this tornado ripped through the base, as well as another town less than 30 minutes from us. And despite how uncomfortable it was, we'll do it again when the time comes!
Here are this week's highlights that didn't make it into their own post:
1) My sister Stevie had a history project due on Wednesday, which meant that we were all up until 1:00am Wednesday morning working on it. I'm happy to report that she made an 89%!
2) United States Supreme Court Justice came to speak at my law school Wednesday morning. I was exhausted, but there was no way I was going to miss it! Seriously the highlight of my non-existent career thus far!
3) Maddox had his first t-ball game of the season on Thursday, which was also my first game as coach. We lost by one run, but he did great! I'd like to think I did alright as well. ;)
4) On Friday, I turned in my graduation application... a very surreal moment for me!! Isn't she beautiful?
[school identification has been electronically redacted for privacy]
5) I attempted my first DIY project and failed miserably, ruining these pretty letters which I had such big plans for. I overestimated my abilities and underestimated the permanence of spray paint, so now they're in the trash. Live and learn [and go buy more.]
6) We all enjoyed the beautiful Saturday weather at the park.
